Like many, I have experienced moments of extreme dread when confronted by the reality of my own mortality and this short article is sharing a personal discovery in this regard.
Indifferent to my years, experience, time spent on personal development, and countless contributions by others, I grappled with mortality until recently, when I finally resolved that I am not separate from anything!
I am unequivocally and forever in existence in the universe and that is that!
It is impossible for me to be separate from anybody or anything as I am simply part of the whole, I always have been and always will be.
The short story, is that I was born, labelled (Alan), enculturated, socialised, educated, and shaped experientially.
In an instant, in my early years, I realise here is I and there is everything else, all of that to be survived!
Mostly we know this, our modern world demanding one’s survival of everything, real or perceived.
No tiger’s lurking (for most) except we deal with the omnipresent threats to our identities and physical existence in every moment.
My wife says, “X” and my boss said, “Y”, and I am propelled into battle for my very existence or so it seems.
I am asserting our life is characterised by survival for most part, leaving what?
A life lived in fear?
Fortunately, in my experience humanity is awakening to the evitability of an exhausted planet, the futility of abject materialism, and that we have one life to live in this realm.
So, this life matters!
To fully experience this life is to live as the full expression of ourselves.
It does not require a purpose or reason; it just is, and it is life to be experienced.
However, here is the rub!
No matter what you do or who you are, this life will cease!
Which brings me back to my realisation about existence and non-existence.
Until now, I have been concerned, anxious, and in dread of my inevitable departure, my non-existence, and now my concern is disappeared!
For me, I am not separate to the universe, I am unified with the universe and an expression arising within it.
While a minuscule part of the universe, my existence is perpetual for the duration of existence.
I am of the source, and while I am expressed in this current physical form, my essence and being are as eternal as the source.
Whether you view my outlook as real or imagined, I am enchanted by it, in a way that affords me great peace, comfort, and the freedom to be.
Joy and Success, Alan 😊
